How to read a magic mushroom strain label.

01

How to choose your first strain

First-time psilocybin users should start with a Moderate strain — Golden Teacher or Buddha Belly. These cubensis cultivars share a forgiving profile: 30–45 minute onset, gentle body load, philosophical headspace, and a predictable 4–6 hour duration.

Avoid Penis Envy, APE, or any "Very High" strain until you have at least three previous magic mushroom experiences and a trusted sitter.

02

Cubensis vs. Cyanescens

Almost every magic mushroom on this page is Psilocybe cubensis — the most cultivated psilocybin species worldwide. The exception is Blue Meanies (Panaeolus cyanescens), a smaller but significantly more potent species native to tropical Australia and Hawaii.

Gram-for-gram, cyanescens contains 2–3× more psilocybin than cubensis. Always halve your dose when switching genus.

03

Reading potency labels

Every magic mushroom strain on this page is lab-tested for psilocybin and psilocin content. The 5-bar potency icon represents the average of the last three harvests, not a single batch.

For dosage planning, weigh your dried magic mushrooms on a 0.01 g scale and trust the scale, not the visual size — Penis Envy fruits are 50% denser than Golden Teacher caps of the same dimensions.
